Entrepreneurship Week 1 DQ 2- Submitted by Ashlie Rodrigues Introduction Takahiko Naraki a young entrepreneur in Japan owning Yuugen Gaisha called BIP his first venture started in 1997 failed and had to close BIP. He re-established BIP in 2001 with a new venture which deals with software models for customer’s relationship management. He also continues to work in a catalogue sales company which helps to support his daily needs as well as invest in his business. In order to cut cost and to be independent BIP was a one man show. The work pressure ultimately affected his health. Today he is at the junction where he is very close to reach his goal to success at the same time his health is deteriorating. He has to decide if he can reach his†¦show more content†¦5. Decision In both cases he needs to quit from the catalogue sales job and concentrate on his business. Both the solutions address to the main problem of management, time and finance. The alternatives suggest that by employing a good work team he can increase sales, and hence revenue which is good for the growth of the company. The overwork, travel and tension which were the main reason for his ill health can be solved. He will be able to dedicate more time with his family and developing new programmers which will help keep a loyal customer base. Solution 1 also reduces the risk of unexpected problems in business as he would have strong partners to guide and support him. 6. Taking Action and Following Up Naraki now will have to share his vision with a team. He needs to invest in his business. He can start up with first establishing an office in Nagoya and later in Tokyo. He could send his employees to Tokyo rather than traveling himself until the office in Tokyo starts. Now he will have to be more careful of the day to day activities till the business grows. BIP will now be able to generate a better income than before. The odds for survival and a higher level of success change dramatically if the venture reaches a critical mass of at least 10 to 20 people with $2 million to $ 3 million in revenues. Gangs will do any thingpossible to keep their turf clear from other whom do not belong there. They will beat you to death, stab you andeven shoot and try to kill them. If they can not kill them while theywere violating their territory they will pass through their hood (turfzone) and retaliate against them. Usually they retaliate by a drive byshooting. A drive by shooting is when gang members stroll throughanother gangs neighborhood turf and shoot a gun from the car in whichthey are riding in to kill the rival gang or at least wound them. From reading and researching this subject I found it interesting howgangs interact and how violence is an every day occurrence in a gangmembers life. While I was researching the material I had to stop acouple of time and just think of how gang member could live the way theydo. With all the shooting, stabbing and people dying how can a gangmember sleep at night knowing that they could be next. To live in thiskind of environment must be terrifying. I have learned that drugs play a very big role in a gangs survival. Thedrugs bring in an income that gets them by. I notice that a lot of gangmembers have nice things like nice clothes, jewelry, sneakers and nicecars but they live in a poor neighborhood with run down housingand have no means of moving on to a better and much cleaner one. Iwonder why that is?I believe that gangs affect human development. People are affected bytheir irresponsible actions. The ordinary people who want to live lifeto the fullest have a hard time doing so because gangs interrupt thatcycle by their attitude and by their violent actions. People are scaredof them and dont want to come into contact because they fear for theirlives. They wont even pass through their neighborhood because theydont want any trouble. Businesses suffer because of gangs. They lose business and customers andas a result the business may have to close down. The neighborhood thegangs live in are worth nothing on the markets because they are all rundown and in a neighborhood that is considered a bad section of town. There is no prosperity in selling the neighborhood because there is noone interested in buying it. The reason is because the fact that it isgang territory and that it is run down. Gangs affect many people andtheir lives and will continue to do so because I believe that they willalways exist and they will never come to an end because people aresucked into this lifestyle every day.

Song for my mother Paper The title of the poem makes its subject clear, a praise song or a eulogy, is a traditional form from many African cultures and is often sung instead of being written down. This poem was written to honour the attributes of the poet’s mother; it is a metaphoric poem written from the child’s perspective, using imagery to describe the powerful emotional relationship she shared with her mother. The poet is grateful and rejoices her mothers presence using the term praise in her poem title whilst referring to her homeland simultaneously. With structure, â€Å"Praise Song for My Mother† is based around the first three stanzas, each of three lines. All of which are very similar in format, although, the rhythm is not carried all the way through. By comparing her to various natural and beautiful things, Nichols really captures the sense of awe and admiration she holds for her mother. She describes her as â€Å"water†. Traditionally water symbolizes life, healing and cleansing. She continues to describe her mother as â€Å"deep and bold and fathoming† this only accentuates the emotions and feelings within their relationship, the confidence, courage and bravery (all features of the sea if you perceive it metaphorically), and the quality of understanding that her mother has. Her mother is also said to be the â€Å"moon’s eye† to her, this conveys how she was a guidance to Nichols during her dark moments like the moon only appearing at night. In relation to the previous stanza’s theme of water, the moon is also known to control the tide. If seen in a metaphorical sense, her mother is the moon and Nichols is the tide, being pulled towards her mother for safety and protection as suggests in the line â€Å"pull and grained and mantling†. Her mother became her strength and foundation when she needed her to be. â€Å"Sunrise† could be a metaphor demonstrating the joy and happiness that her mother brought into her life. Sunrise meaning she never set, that she never ended; she was always fresh and new. â€Å"Rise and warm and streaming†, warmth indicates a sense of comfort, rise embodies a subtle power that her mother has and streaming displays a ceaseless love. Evocative words are used to give more strength towards Nichols’ opinion on her mother and expresses how much of a important character she was in her life. And in a way, causes us, as the readers to be able to relate and in turn think of our own relationships with our parents. The fourth stanza is concentrated on food, drawing on Nichols’ Caribbean roots thus giving a more personal insight into the poem. She uses the double verb; â€Å"replenishing replenishing†, because like her natural references; the tide, water or sunrise, her mother is always there. The use of the plural form of â€Å"future† in the final line is significant. What these â€Å"futures† will contain is undefined by the mother; she has faith in her daughter hence the addition of â€Å"wide† showing that the mother knew her daughter would take advantage of all the different opportunities offered to her. And as if her parenting has been about creating possibilities, rather than deciding or controlling her daughter’s future. The main idea of â€Å"Praise Song for My Mother† is that parents – specifically mothers – are a source of nourishment and sustenance for their children, consistently providing them with the necessities in order to flourish and advance. Water, the moon and the sun are all elements that add to the timeless quality created in the relationship between mother and daughter. The keyword within the piece is â€Å"replenishing†, repeated in order to strengthen the reliability of the mother when giving everything her daughter needs to overcome obstacles and life’s numerous challenges. The celebratory and commemorative nature of the poem can be seen in the active and positive language the poet displays. She is praised over and over again for the qualities that she presents to her daughter, when helping her to adulthood. The mother is seen as an inspiration. It is not just a command to â€Å"go to your wide futures† that directs and leads the daughter into maturity but the example that her mother has set.
